Tour Tipp 1 - Magical Kranjska Gora

Magical Kranjska Gora – A festive magical fairytale in the Heart of the Alps

Step into the magic of winter in Kranjska Gora, where snowy peaks, twinkling lights, and festive melodies create an unforgettable Advent experience. During the Magical Kranjska Gora event series, this charming alpine village transforms into a winter wonderland perfect for group visits and day excursions.

Begin your day with a stroll through the festively decorated center of Kranjska Gora, a charming alpine village adorned with sparkling lights and holiday warmth. The church bell tower rises gracefully above the square, while the cultural centre shines under a beautiful curtain of lights. Nearby, visitors can capture unforgettable moments at the holiday photo spot (snowball), a perfect place to create lasting memories of their winter getaway. Just a short walk away, in the peaceful Park of Peace, a unique nativity scene made from natural materials can be found, carefully arranged inside a traditional wooden hayrack, symbolizing the region’s heritage and authenticity. The air is filled with the scent of mulled wine, cinnamon, and roasted chestnuts, while the Christmas market offers handmade gifts, local delicacies, and authentic Slovenian crafts. On weekends, the main square comes alive with live concerts. For those visiting during the New Year’s holidays, Kranjska Gora offers a truly unforgettable celebration — New Year’s Eve with the Sašo Avsenik Ensemble.

Next, head to the nearby Planica Nordic Centre, home of the world-famous ski jumps and world ski flying record. During winter, the nearby place transforms into a lively outdoor ice rink, where visitors can enjoy skating surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. A warm drink at the Planica Café is the perfect way to relax and soak up the festive atmosphere.

Continue your journey to Mojstrana, a picturesque mountaineering village at the entrance to the Triglav National Park. Here, a magical world awaits – the Ice Kingdom, an open-air display of stunning ice sculptures illuminated by colorful lights. The experience is especially enchanting after dark, when the entire kingdom sparkles with frozen beauty. The 45–60-minute theater performance, featuring 24 actors, is set against the backdrop of magnificent 25-meter ice falls, which are otherwise used as a winter climbing site. The live nativity scene in ice performance takes place three times a day between December 25 and 30.

Before returning home, make a stop at the Slovenian Alpine Museum, which hosts the Alpine Holiday Market during the festive season. The market offers unique handmade products, mountain-themed souvenirs, and culinary delights from local producers. It’s also an ideal place to learn about Slovenia’s mountaineering heritage.

Whether for a day trip or a weekend getaway, Kranjska Gora welcomes group visitors with excellent hospitality, easy accessibility for buses, and a range of activities for all ages. Between the festive lights, alpine traditions, and winter joy, every visitor will find a moment of true holiday magic.
